Our journey begins on the island paradise of Zanzibar

There will be a group welcome meeting at 18:00 on 15 June. Please meet Olafs in the reception area of the Tembo House Hotel at this time. He will provide a personal welcome and deliver a full tour briefing, including important information for the days ahead.

After breakfast, we meet our local guide and depart for a full day tour of the island. We learn about Zanzibari history as we visit some of Stone Town’s most historic buildings. Later, we take a boat to Prison Island to see giant tortoises and enjoy some snorkelling, with equipment provided. We then continue to a spice farm to see, smell and taste freshly grown spices and fruits.

Most of today is at leisure to explore Stone Town independently. You may wish to visit museums, browse the tiny bazaars or sample some of Zanzibar’s excellent restaurants. For early risers, a visit to the morning market is highly recommended.

At around 3pm, we will transfer to the airport for a short late afternoon flight to Dar es Salaam, where we will stay overnight before flying onwards to the Comoros Islands the following morning. Private group transfers will be provided between Dar es Salaam airport and our hotel. Depending on traffic, the journey will take approximately 30 minutes.

Comoros Islands . This tiny archipelago set in the azure waters off Africa’s east coast. Three contrasting volcanic islands, all with irresistible charm, provide an escape from the bustle of life to a place of endless sequestered beaches, turquoise shallows, reefs teeming with life, and deep indigo ocean views that are bewilderingly beautiful.

Grande Comore Island Tour After breakfast, we set off on a full day tour of Grande Comore. We drive across the island from the foothills of Mount Karthala, an impressive active volcano, to the high plateau of Diboini to view extinct craters. We continue to the agricultural cooperative in Mbeni, where we visit a ylang ylang distillery and a vanilla pod warehouse. After lunch, we hope to encounter lemurs and tortoises, as well as learn about the legendary coelacanth fish. We then visit a dramatic rock formation shaped like a dragon and stop at the enchanting Salt Lake, whose colour can vary from white to turquoise blue. On our return to Moroni, we stop at the beautiful white sand beaches of Galawa and Chomoni for a swim in the Indian Ocean.

After breakfast, we set out on a full day exploration of southern Grande Comore, beginning with a visit to the historic village of Itsandra. Here we explore the old fortress and the palace of the Ignafamba tribe, before continuing to a traditional witchcraft house to gain an insight into local customs and beliefs. Returning to Moroni, we visit the national museum and explore the medina, with its maze of narrow alleyways, bustling markets and colourful fabric shops. Lunch is served at a local seafood restaurant. In the afternoon, we travel south to the wetlands and mangroves of Iconi Marabou Lake, an important biodiversity site rich in birdlife and coastal vegetation. Nearby, we stop at the dramatic cliffs associated with the island’s slavery era, where local legend tells of women who chose to throw themselves into the sea rather than face enslavement. We later continue to the spice plantations of Kafouni, where we discover some of the island’s aromatic crops and visit a traditional ylang distillery before returning to Moroni.

After a leisurely breakfast, we are transferred to the airport for our late morning flight to the French island of Mayotte.

Mayotte is an archipelago and an overseas department of France, it holds a unique status within the European Union. The island’s population is primarily of Comorian descent. French is the official language, though Shimaore is widely spoken. Renowned for its coral reefs and marine biodiversity, Mayotte offers a fascinating blend of European governance and distinct island culture.

Mayotte to Reunion

After breakfast, we meet our guide for a morning tour of the island. We visit the MUMA Musée de Mayotte, offering insight into the island’s history, traditions and natural heritage. The tour continues through mangrove swamps, past a volcanic lake and across expansive mudflats. Later, we return to the airport for our early evening flight to Reunion. On arrival, we are met and transferred to our hotel in Saint Denis, the island’s capital.

After breakfast, we meet our local guide for a full day tour. Highlights include Cascade Niagara, hidden beneath sugar cane plantations, and Notre Dame des Laves, a church miraculously spared by lava flows. We travel along the spectacular Route des Laves to Piton de la Fournaise, then continue to Trou du Souffleur, a dramatic natural blowhole created by ocean waves. Return to Saint Denis by late afternoon.

Reunion Free Day

A full day at leisure to relax or explore Saint Denis. You may visit Le Barachois waterfront, admire the colonial architecture of Rue de Paris, explore Musée Léon Dierx or relax in the Jardin de l’État botanical gardens.

Rodrigues

After a leisurely morning, we transfer to the airport for the weekly direct flight to Rodrigues Island, located some 600 kilometres northeast of Mauritius. On arrival, we are transferred to our hotel in time for dinner.

Rodrigues Island Tour After breakfast, we meet our local guide for a full day tour. We begin in Port Mathurin, visiting the local market, St Gabriel Church and the Rodrigues Island Museum. We then explore some of the island’s most beautiful beaches, including Trou d’Argent, Gravier and Saint François. The tour continues to François Leguat Nature Reserve, home to giant tortoises and endemic birdlife, before returning to the hotel.

Rodrigues Island to Mauritius After breakfast, we transfer to the airport for a late morning flight to Mauritius. On arrival, we are met and transferred to our waterfront hotel in Port Louis. The remainder of the day is free.

Mauritius blends tropical island beauty with rich cultural diversity. Port Louis offers vibrant markets, colonial architecture and historic Chinatown. A visit to the UNESCO listed Aapravasi Ghat reveals the island’s colonial history and links with India following the abolition of slavery.

Mauritius Island Tour After breakfast, we meet our guide for a full day exploring some of the hidden treasures of southern Mauritius. Our journey includes the dramatic coastal scenery of Pont Naturel, Gris Gris Beach and the cliffs of La Roche Qui Pleure, where powerful waves crash against the rugged shoreline. We also visit the colourful Tookay Temple and the historic Seneville Bridge. Lunch is served at Le Rochester Restaurant beside the river, before we continue inland to discover more of the island’s natural beauty. Highlights include Bassin Blanc volcano, the sweeping views across Black River Gorges National Park and its waterfall, as well as Chamarel Waterfalls and the famous Chamarel Coloured Earths. We also visit Grand Bassin, Mauritius’ sacred lake and one of the island’s most important Hindu pilgrimage sites, before returning to Port Louis in the late afternoon.

After a leisurely morning, in the afternoon we transfer to the airport for our final flight, to the Seychelles. On arrival on Mahé, we are met and transferred to our resort style hotel near Victoria, the Seychelles capital.

Our final full day is at leisure. You may relax at the resort or explore Victoria independently, just a short taxi ride away.
